This course is designed to prepare incoming junior students for a rigorous college level Advanced Placement English course. The course will focus on close readings of texts, specifically the summer reading selection, current event essays, editorials, and periodicals. Students will explore strategies for facilitating the adjustment from honors to the AP level. Students will also begin to define and apply rhetorical terminology to various texts in order to explicate and analyze authors’ arguments. Additionally, students will have an opportunity to discuss the summer reading assignment.
